I gave some thought to a subject the other day that has been puzzling me for some time. Lately I engaged in the game: Baldur's Gate 2. Dont mean to bore you with the details but its an RPG (role playing game). It is a good one. You need to put together your own Joe with an extended amount of variety, and lead him or her (though I would love to see guys who make female characters) through a story.. you can go about it in a number of ways you want. You can really get attached to your character I tell you. (dont look like, this.. anyway.. ok... I can) For a fact I can tell you a lot of people do. You must have heard of the game WOW, World Of Warcraft, the trendy addiction nowadays. We make games better and better that fulfill our dreams (even lifes?!) for us, so we become more and more lazy to get those experiences ourselves. There is an other aspect though that I am worried about now, and that is the influence these "platforms" have on us. Books, television shows... whatever applicable I believe always affected the way average Joe looks at himself or *khrm* herself.. itself.. whatever.. The point is, morals, and "guidance" to life has always been provided by certain means of entertainment. Now, that entertainment is getting more interactive with IT for example, and at the same time "dreams" are better understood by the holy marketeers and their all penetrating research techniques... we might have a big problem on our tails.
To sum it up, its better targeted dreams, in a more interactive manner, with a very addictive attitude.. soon we will end up people completely attached and similarized with their virtual pals.
I cant wait for the first time when I will encounter an orc ambush at the local gas station... Dont worry myfriends, a couple of fireballs and magis misseles, will cast them away.. if not, I always have my boots of speed as a plan B. (does the next generation have a plan B? Do we have one for them?)
